Five Questions about Finned Tubes, Wet Air Coolers and Heat Exchangers

Five Questions about Finned Tubes, Wet Air Coolers and Heat Exchangers

1. How to classify the finned tube of finned tube heat exchangers?
In terms of structural form, finned tubes can be divided into two basic types, longitudinal and radial, and the other forms are the development and deformation of these two types. The shape of the fins is round, rectangular and needle-shaped. In addition, the fins can be placed outside the tube, which are called the outer fin tube. They can also be placed inside the tube, called the inner fin tube, or both. According to the manufacturing process, the finned tubes can be classified into integral finned tubes, welded finned tubes, high-frequency welded finned tubes, and mechanically connected finned tubes.

2. How are wet air coolers classified and what are their characteristics?
Wet air coolers can be divided into three types according to its working conditions: humidification types, spray types and combined types. These three types of wet air coolers have their own advantages: the principle of the spray type is water spray evaporation cooling, which sprays mist water directly onto the fin surface. The humidification type is to spray water at the air inlet (water is not sprayed on the fins), so that the water evaporates in the humidification chamber. The spray type has concentrated the advantages of evaporative cooling and air cooling, which is superior to the humidifying type in terms of heat transfer enhancement or adaptability to environmental temperature. However, water evaporation on the fin may cause scaling, so the medium temperature in the tube is usually limited to 80℃.

3. Illustrate what is a hybrid heat exchanger.
The hybrid heat exchanger is a heat exchanger that exchanges heat through direct contact between cold and hot fluids, also called a contact heat exchanger. Because the two fluids must be separated in time after mixing and exchanging heat, this type of heat exchanger is suitable for heat exchange between gas and liquid.

4. Illustrate what is a regenerative heat exchanger.
The regenerative heat exchanger is a heat exchanger that uses cold and hot fluid to alternately flow through the surface of the regenerator to exchange heat.

5. Give an example of what a partition wall heat exchanger is.
The partition wall heat exchanger is a heat exchanger in which cold and hot fluids are separated by solid partition walls and exchange heat through the partition walls, so it is also called a surface heat exchanger. According to the structure of the heat transfer surface, the partition wall heat exchanger is divided into tube types, plate types and other forms.
